Responsiblities:
- The laboratory technician, on behalf of the shift operations engineer, analyses the discharge of waste water for and records unacceptable constituents, temperature, pH, etc. The reports his findings and recommendations immediately.
- The laboratory technician is multi-skilled and uses this capability to test, calibrate and perform minor maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- He analyses potable water, boiler water and steam samples independently of the installed equipment and makes reports, recommendations based on this analysis. he is fully aware of the targets for boiler water and steam chemistry and of the consequences of deviations from these.
- The laboratory technician prepares reports and maintains records as required by the company, the pollution inspectorate and other agencies.
- His multi-skilled ability allows him to provide back-up facilities for the operations technicians for emergencies, holidays, illness, etc...
- The laboratory technician is also responsible for maintaining chemical control over
- Sea-water chemistry including residual and free chlorine levels at salient process locations.
- Generalised hypochlorite chemistry, steam quality chemistry and desalination plant chemistry
- Potabilisation process chemistry
- Fuel oil chemistry
Qualifications:
The laboratory technician has a minimum of GCE ‘A’ and three years experience in a chemical process, water chemistry facility or in an industrial laboratory
